Buckwheat Breakfast


(for 2 servings):

- 1/2 cup buckwheat groats (I like roasted buckwheat, or kasha)

- 2 cups water

- pinch of salt

- 3 green cardamom pods

- 1 teaspoon cinnamon or a cinnamon stick

- 1 pear

- 2 strawberries or a couple of blueberries

- ghee + maple sirup


Crush the cardamom pods slightly. Add water, salt, cardamom and cinnamon to a saucepan. Bring to a boil.

Rinse buckwheat and add to the boiling water.

Reduce the heat to low, cover with a lid and cook for 7 mn.

Add cut up pear and continue to cook, covered, until liquid is absorbed (usually another 5 mn or so).

Serve, top with berries, add a conservative amount of ghee and maple sirup (no more than 1 teaspoon each).
